APHVN Limited ("Company", "We", "Us", or "Our") is committed to protecting the privacy of users of our Last Word application (the "App" or "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal data when you use the Service. APHVN Limited is registered in England and Wales, company number 15968200.
By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
1. Data We Collect
A. Data You Provide
- Account information: when you register, we collect data such as a first name and, where applicable, an email address to create your account. You can also start as a guest.
- Profile and preferences: the topics you pick, your motivation, your confidence self-rating, reminder preferences, and similar setup choices, used only to personalise the App.
- Communications: if you contact support or report AI output from within the App, we collect your contact details and the contents of your report or messages.
B. Voice and Debate Data
- Live voice audio: when you start a voice debate, audio from your microphone is streamed to our real-time voice infrastructure so the debate can happen. Your speech is transcribed as you talk so the App can respond, show live captions, and match what you say against the fact base.
- We do not keep recordings of your voice. Live audio is processed transiently to run the debate. What we keep is the text transcript of the debate, your scores, fallacies you spotted, facts you landed, and your saved lines, all stored with your account so the App can track your progress.
- AI opponent speech: your opponent's replies are generated by an AI language model and converted to a character voice by a speech synthesis provider. Your transcribed words are shared with these providers during a debate solely to generate the opponent's side of the conversation.
C. Data We Collect Automatically
- Device and network data: IP address, operating system, device type, app version, language, and push notification tokens.
- Usage and analytics data: the features you use, screens you view, and in-app events, collected to maintain and improve the App.
2. Political Opinions (Special Category Data)
Last Word is a political debate trainer. What you say in a debate, the topics you choose, and your saved lines may reveal your political opinions, which are special category data under Article 9 of the UK GDPR. We process this data only with your explicit consent, which we ask for before your first debate. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your debate data or your account from within the App, after which we will stop processing it. We never use your political opinions for advertising, profiling beyond the features you request, or any purpose other than running the Service.
3. How We Use Your Data
- Provide the Service: run live debates, captions, fact matching, scoring (which is rule-based, not decided by AI), quest progress, streaks, crowns and saved lines.
- Notifications: send reminder and streak push notifications (you can turn these off in your device settings).
- Safety and moderation: review in-app reports of AI output and operate our moderation safeguards.
- Improve the Service: analyse aggregated usage to fix bugs and build new features.
- Subscriptions: process and validate in-app purchases via our payment partners.
- Security and legal: detect abuse and comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal Basis (UK GDPR)
We rely on your explicit consent for data revealing political opinions (see section 2), contractual necessity to provide the Service, legitimate interests to improve and secure it, and legal obligations where they apply. You may withdraw consent at any time as described above.
5. Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with:
- Real-time voice infrastructure: to stream audio between you and the AI opponent during a debate.
- Speech providers: to transcribe your speech and synthesise the opponent's voice during a debate.
- AI model providers: to generate the opponent's replies from the conversation transcript. These providers process debate content to provide the service to us and are not permitted to sell it.
- Service providers: hosting, database, analytics, and push delivery.
- Payment partners: Apple, Google, and RevenueCat to process and validate subscriptions.
- Legal authorities: where reasonably necessary to comply with the law.
6. Retention and Security
We keep your data only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and protect it with appropriate technical and organisational measures. Live voice audio is not retained as a recording. You can delete your debate history, your data, or your entire account at any time from within the App.
7. International Transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the UK/EEA. Where that happens we ensure appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, are in place.
8. Your Rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to, and port your data. To exercise them, contact us below. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
9. Children's Privacy
Last Word discusses political and social themes and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
10. Changes
We may update this Policy and will revise the "Last updated" date above.
